As all five winter sports seasons slowly wind down, each team planned a game to honor and commemorate their senior athletes for their hard work and dedication to the program. Each Senior Night was unique but shared the common thread of celebration. Follow along for some comprehensive coverage of the conclusion of the boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball seasons, along with girls' water polo.

Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) winter sports teams recently held multiple Senior Nights as the winter sports season is coming to a close. As multiple teams continue the fight to CIF (California Interscholastic Federation), they invite parents and fans to celebrate seniors in their league match-ups. Boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and girls’ water polo all emerged victorious against their opponents. Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys basketball had an exceptionally good season, going deep into the playoffs. They placed first in the Frontier league with a record of 6-2 and an overall record of 16-14. Team captains, John Cassidy ‘24 and Daniel Ferrer ‘24 led the team to the California Scholastic Federation (CIF) quarter finals in Big Bear, where they finished off their season strong.

Celebrating the team's seniors, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys’ basketball team faced off against Villanova Preparatory School (Villanova) on Feb. 2, 2024. The night started with a recognition of the two seniors on the team, John Cassidy ‘24 (number 14) and Daniel Ferrer ‘24 (number 2), then proceeded to the game. The Dragons took the win at the end of the night with a final score of 48-26.

On the rainy night of Jan. 17, 2024, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys' basketball takes on Grace Brethren High School (Grace Brethren) in a defensive 54-43 win. The top scorers of the game were two sophomores, Nick Drucker '26 (number 5) and Elijah Spencer '26 (number 42). Drucker had 16 points, three of which were 3-pointers. Spencer had 10 points, most of which were scored from the paint. On the defensive side, Luigirey Guce '25 (number 1) had multiple steals, leading to fast breaks that got the Dragons easy lay-ups. Although they scored only 21 points in the first half, Foothill Tech pushed past their slow start, ending the game with 22 points in the fourth quarter. Their next game is on Jan. 19, 2024, against Villanova Preparatory High School (Villanova).

On the chilly night of Jan. 10, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys' basketball team started the new year strong, winning their first league game against the Thacher School (Thacher). Foothill Tech huddles up at the end of the first quarter with a quick motivational talk from their head coach Jamaal Brown. They lead the first quarter with a score of 11-10.

On Dec. 18, 2023, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys’ basketball team faced a tough loss against Newbury Park High School (Newbury) in a non-league game with a score of 39-50.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls soccer did exceptionally well in league, placing first with a record of 8-1-1. Led by team captains Shayna Dearman-So ‘24, Taylor Listen ‘24, Cameryn Henuber ‘24 and Eva Goncalves ‘25, the team made it to round one of CIF playoffs.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys soccer made it deep into CIF, led by team captains, Matheus Gamble ‘24, Diego Flores Orozco ‘24 and Merric Bayless ‘24. The team worked tirelessly to earn third place in league with a record of 6-2-1.

The soccer season is short, action packed, tiring and can go by in the blink of an eye. The Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys' soccer team’s run for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division Five championship was put to an end on the night of Feb. 16, 2024, at the semifinal game that took place at Ventura High School's (Ventura) Larrabee Stadium.

On Feb. 9, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys’ soccer team played against Laguna Beach High School (Laguna Beach) in the second round of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section. The Dragons won with a score of 3-1 with goals from Ricky Salinas ‘24 (number 30), Merric Bayless ‘24 (number 9) and Nico Flores ‘24 (number 15).

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball had an exceptionally good season, tying for first place with St. Bonaventure High School (Bonnie) in the Tri-Valley league, with a record of 7-1 and an overall record of 12-12. Team captains, Petra Falcocchia ‘24 and Lauren Kaller ‘25, led the team into the California Scholastic Federation (CIF) Division 3AA playoffs, where they made it to the second round and finished their season strong.

On Feb. 8, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls’ basketball team took to the court in the first round of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section. The Dragons won against Crossroads High School (Crossroads) with a score of 36-32. Good defense was displayed by Olivia Mowad ‘24 (number 32), Petra Falcocchia ‘24 (number 23), Lauren Kaller ‘25 (number 0) and Kiara Zavala ‘26 (number 5). Although the score was tight, the team handled the pressure well and will now move onto the next round of CIF.

To commemorate their seniors, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls’ basketball secured another league victory against Cate High School (Cate) in their last home game of the season on Jan. 25, 2024. Adding to the win, it was also the team’s Senior Night, where they honored their seniors with speeches, flowers and balloons.
