To keep up with the growing population of Ventura, Calif., the Ventura City Council voted in favor of expanding paid parking in the downtown area. As of May 1, 2024, many of the currently free parking places, including the parking structure on Santa Clara St., will cost $1.25 an hour.

Drug use, particularly vaping or smoking marijuana, is a prevalent issue among high schoolers. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) states that 23.2 percent of 12th graders had vaped nicotine in the past year, and 29 percent of 12th graders had reported using cannabis in the past year, according to the 2023 NIDA Monitoring the Future annual survey. While drug use among teens is not rising dramatically, the dangers of doing so have. With deadly synthetic drugs like fentanyl contaminating drug supplies, drug use in teens has been more dangerous than ever before.

March 8, 2024, marked the return of the well-known and highly-anticipated event: Night to Remember. Held at Ventura County Fairgrounds, Night to Remember served as a way for people to connect with those around them, while honoring those with disabilities. From March 4-8, 2024, Wellness Week was held at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) to inform students of ways to improve ones mental and physical health. The week focused on many things such as a sound bath, a tabling event, a safeTalk, a blender bike and even therapy dogs.

Entree to Employment is an annual event hosted by the BioScience Academy. This event is a formal dinner which allows the upperclassmen of the academy to meet professionals in the field of medicine, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The dinner is run by Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) leaders and staffed by the sophomores who set up, served meals and cleaned up.

With an emphasis on connection, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) had its annual Kindness Week spanning from Feb. 12 to Feb. 15. The Associated Student Body (ASB) had daily activities for students including decorating the halls with hundreds of color-coordinated hearts with students’ names for Valentine’s Day.

    @MikeyParker, Foothill is a Blue Ribbon school and ranks 77th in the nation, yet we’ve got people here thinking we should close the borders because ISIS members are coming from Mexico.

    “We need to end ISIS because they have too much of an influence on Paris happening here in the United States.” You good, bruh?
