Last Saturday, October 15th, the “happiest 5k on the planet” came to Ventura. The Color Run is a 5k that occurs once a year in Ventura, but it has a twist. Every year the run has a different theme, such as this year’s being “tropicolor” and last year’s being “shine.”
Periodically the runners throw color in a group effort to make the sky cloudy with color and a piña colada scent.
The run occurred early Saturday morning at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Volunteers arrived at 6 a.m. and runners at 8 a.m.
The start and finish of the race were both at the fairgrounds, and the majority of the run extended down most of Main Street. The run lasted a little under an hour for most people, and then the real celebration began.
When the runners reached the finish line an assortment of snacks and festivities were waiting for them. They could take pictures by the multiple photo stands, or take part in the concert. With the help of their staff the Color Run puts on a small concert with a DJ who hypes up the crowd.
The happiest 5K on earth will be making its return in Ventura next October, with a new theme and a new crowd to make happy.
