In early December, seniors were informed of a program called “Senior Wishes." Through the Senior Wishes, seniors can make one “wish," and ASB and the senior teachers will do what they can to make said wishes come true. The senior class is allotted, total, $1,000 to spend on senior wishes.
Examples of senior wishes include wishes for a Starbucks coffee drink to be delivered on a particular day, a cake made by math teacher Anthony Villa, and for math teacher Spencer Kellogg (a passionate tomato hater) to deliver a bag of tomatoes to the student.
In order to get more information about the wishes, I asked the senior class president, Noelie LeBlanc, about it. She informed me that the teachers, with the help of ASB, were doing everything in their power to grant every single wish. I asked what her favorite wishes were, to which she replied that wishes involving an entire class or the entire senior class itself were the best.
For example, one student wished for dessert for their entire third period class. On a daily basis, seniors are granted their wishes of brownies made by Melanie "Captain" Lindsey, balloons delivered to friends and SSR time. Granted wishes are posted on the wall of the F-Pod.
Some wishes were cost free, however. Alexandra Zinik, the 2010 Winter Formal Queen, wished to have a special song played as she and her boyfriend, David White, danced together at the Winter Formal.
This program is really one that I have absolutely no complaints about. To criticize such a program would be an insult to the generosity of the ASB, administration and teachers. My only critique, if any, would be to allow an alternate wish to any student who wished for anything too expensive or organizationally impossible. I feel that no student should be deprived of a senior wish.
So far, I have been very happy with the results of the “Senior Wish” program. I can only hope that, with all the severe budget cuts, the “Senior Wishes” program can continue for years to come.
