Community service is a simple act that contributes to the bigger picture. Not only does community service look good on college applications and job resumes, but it also strengthens bonds within communities and brings individuals together around a common goal. Many non-profit organizations in Ventura offer Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) students a variety of opportunities to get involved in projects that may unlock new passions and career pathways.

"Hollow Knight: Silksong," a metroidvania created by Team Cherry, is one of the most highly anticipated games of the decade, having been first announced on Feb. 14, 2019 after the success of Team Cherry's first game, "Hollow Knight." Released on Sept. 4, 2025, the game has seen critical acclaim from both players and video game reviewers, praising the game’s innovation on the past mechanics introduced by Team Cherry in “Hollow Knight." Longtime fans of the genre and newcomers alike will enjoy the difficult but rewarding combat, the detailed and vibrant locations and the lively world-building in this video game.

The second annual Lima Bean Festival was held on Sept. 13, 2025, in Oxnard, Calif. Organized by the Oxnard Historic Farm Park, this event serves to honor Oxnard and Ventura County's rich history in the agricultural industry, with the spotlight crop being lima beans. Starting as early as noon, eventgoers enter the park and are greeted with lively music played by Frankie and the Lima Beans, numerous local restaurants take on lima bean dishes, and a wide array of arts and crafts. Those attending were also allowed to grab a copy of a new book published by the director of the park, Jeffery Maulhardt, which covers the impact lima beans have had on California as a whole.

“Ghost of Yōtei” is a game developed by Sucker Punch Productions, written as a sequel to the studio’s previous game, “Ghost of Tsushima,” from 2020. “Ghost of Yōtei” is set to release on Oct. 2, 2025, as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Marketed as an open-world adventure combat game with an immersive story, the main character, Atsu, seeks revenge against the Yōtei Six throughout the game, eventually becoming a legend of her own.

"100 men vs. One gorilla" was a viral debate in online internet spaces about whether or not 100 men could best a gorilla in a fight. The question first emerged in 2020 on Reddit page r/whowouldwin, and recently saw a resurgence in popular media after popular influencer Mr. Beast made a post about it on X, formerly known as Twitter.

On Friday, May 28, 2025, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) hosted its annual senior awards night. This night allows the staff at Foothill Tech the honor of celebrating all of the seniors’ achievements. Some of the awards include the Calif. State Seal of Civic Engagement, multilingual seal, athletic wall of fame, and dragon hall of fame.

Where do monsters come from? Where did these urban legends originate, and how have they changed? Whether they reside in the shadows in your closet or under the bed, monsters were made for a reason. They were made to teach lessons and cope with things that were hard to understand at the time. Parents would tell stories of their untrue nature to protect their kids from real world threats. Even in the modern day when some of these previous questions have been answered, people still find comfort in horror movies and games.

On Feb. 14, 2025, the newest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe hit theaters, continuing the line of Captain America movies. As the mantle of Captain America was passed down to Sam Wilson, he now faces new but familiar villains last seen in the Hulk movies, solidifying Sam Wilson's role as the new Captain America.

February: also known as Black History Month. Many people may know that it is Black History Month, but where did it start? What is the history behind it? This month-long celebration originally started only as a week, "Negro History Week". Carter G. Woodson believed that people of color were overlooked by historians, so he took charge in changing that. He placed "Negro History Week" in February to correspond with the birthdays of President Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, both of which helped change the United States for African Americans.

10900 Telephone Road Ventura, Calif., is home to one of many CalVet homes across California, acting as a haven for veterans to live and find community. Through the main entrance of the home before you enter the dining room, there is an honorary wall with displays of pictures showcasing the many residents that have served the United States of America. These pictures capture moments from when the residents were in service. These photos stretching the length of the wall shows how much respect and honor the home provides for the incredible people that risked their lives for their country.

With the release of titles like “Metaphor: Refantazio” by ATLUS and Studio Zero, “Black Myth: Wukong”, developed by Game Science, 2024 proved to be a very successful year for many game developers. At the 2024 Game Awards, there was fierce competition among the six nominations to be recognized as the "Game of the Year", with “Astrobot”, developed by Team ASOBI taking home the title.

The IDEA Academy is a three year math and science pathway at DATA, described by many to be reliant on aspects like coring and block schedule. On Nov. 26, the student site council at DeAnza voted to keep block schedule, a win for IDEA and its supporters.

The film is a science fiction and animal fantasy movie that is based on the original book series called The Wild Robot written by Petter Brown and published in Apr. 5, 2016.

“DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO” released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam is part of the “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi” series of games that follow the "Dragon Ball" anime series. It has amassed 90,000 concurrent players on Steam, with 3 million copies globally bought in its first 24 hours of publish day.

The Idea Center is a community center that is free for all Ventura Unified School District (VUSD) students. It offers a variety of resources ranging from 3D printing, computers and internet. Students can choose to work on different projects with the help of the staff as well as getting some school work done.

Colton Salles ‘27 and Sawyer Donaldson ‘27 are on their phones while standing by the closed E-pod bathrooms during class time. The access to the E-pod bathrooms is closed due to the lack of administration available to make sure that students going to the restrooms do not use devices.

Rooted in Chinese mythology, "Black Myth: Wukong" is an action RPG game that bases its story off of the Journey To the West. The game was developed and published by the company Game Science, released on Aug. 19, 2024, and has soared in popularity since its release. As of Aug. 23, 2024, Game Science released data that indicated that the game had sold 10 million copies, and obtained 3 million concurrent users across all available platforms.
