Inspired by the game show “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) students around campus were quizzed about some of the show’s most popular questions. With the end of the school year approaching, how much have students truly learned and remembered?

The end of the year is approaching and students of Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) are now filled to the brim with the knowledge they have soaked up through this year … or are they? In this video and as a continuation of this series, we are once again testing the knowledge of our students by answer the age-old question: “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?”

The first ever U.S. born pope, Pope Leo has shocked the Catholic world with a break in the pattern of European pontiffs. Pope Leo has also spent many years in Peru working in the city of Chiclayo as the head of an Augustinian seminary. He has gained his Peruvian citizenship and is beloved by many of the residents of not just Chiclayo, but Peru as a whole.
What does the new Pope stand for?
At Harbor Cove Beach in Ventura sit nine beach volleyball courts, which are used by schools and clubs across the county, as well as recreationally by the public. However, as of recently, the courts may face possible removal or relocation. The California Coastal Commission stated that the courts are unpermitted and established on land that should be restored to dunes.

Mental health is the thread that weaves through every facet of daily life, often overlooked – until it frays, that is. It is the foundation of our thoughts, emotions and behavior, influencing everything from how we cope with stress to how we celebrate joy. This May, help create an environment where mental health is valued and addressed with the same urgency as physical health by embracing self-care and seeking support.

All across the coast of California, large masses of blue creatures resembling jellyfish are washing up onshore. These are not in fact jellyfish but Velella velella, or commonly referred to as "by-the-wind sailors." With the arrival of spring and the changing of wind patterns and currents, velella wash up on shore all over our local beaches.

Where do monsters come from? Where did these urban legends originate, and how have they changed? Whether they reside in the shadows in your closet or under the bed, monsters were made for a reason. They were made to teach lessons and cope with things that were hard to understand at the time. Parents would tell stories of their untrue nature to protect their kids from real world threats. Even in the modern day when some of these previous questions have been answered, people still find comfort in horror movies and games.

On Friday, May 23, 2025, Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) Associated Student Body (ASB) held the annual Air Guitar. Air Guitar is a talent show held at the end of the school year signifying that the end of the school year is approaching. Pictures above is Dylan Arevalo ‘26, known as lil pickle, performing his own rap song. Arevalo went on to win the "fan favorite" award by the end of the show.

Before the internet, the Incel (Involuntary Celibate) population wasn’t a community. However, after mass globalization and connection via the internet, the impact of certain ideologies and beliefs can outgrow the knowledge of their consequences. It can also hide the warning signs behind a screen and anonymous messages, delaying any substantial response to the danger before it translates to real world effects. Incel culture is a far cry from what it was originally supposed to be, but the actions of its most known members have since transformed it into something that can’t be ignored so easily. This is especially true in the malicious endeavors brought to light by a new Netflix series, “Adolescence”, that was released on March 13, 2025.

Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) boys baseball team earned a 3–1 victory over El Monte High School in the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section playoffs on May 16, 2025. The Dragons set the tone early and maintained steady control throughout the game showcasing their defense and consistent energy on the field. Foothill Tech held firm to secure the win. The result marks an important step in the Dragons postseason journey as they look to build on the momentum heading into the second round that takes place on May 21, 2025 against Estancia.

As ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) tools take a front seat in day to day life, it's important to ask, what's the impact? AI is helping in many capacities. It is the newest search engine, the smartest and only getting smarter. It is tracking carbon and methane emissions and helping to keep climate change in check. However, does AI also play a part in the acceleration of climate change? To run these huge AI programs, it takes an enormous quantity of resources and money. Big data centers have to be built, and then these data centers require extensive amounts of water and energy to function. Inevitably, the consumption of these precious resources adds up over time.

On May 10, 2025 the best of Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) track and field athletes, of those that qualified at the Tri-Valley League Championships the week prior, gathered together at Carpinteria High School to face off against their competing division four athletes. From here the athletes battled off to qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Finals, which took place at Moorpark High School on May 17, 2025.
