On Feb. 13, 2025, the Bioscience Academy (Bioscience) hosted its annual Entree to Employment event, where the juniors and seniors of the academy met with professionals to learn about science-based professions. Bioscience hosts this event every year, where the sophomores (Cohort 21) serves the junior (Cohort 20) and senior cohorts (Cohort 19), as well as the professionals, a full course meal.
Mika Anderson, Bioscience advisor, said, “HOSA Services Committee was the committee that was responsible for putting together Entree to Employment … The entire sophomore Bioscience survey class is the class that runs the event because the juniors and seniors are at the tables having dinner with the professionals.”
She continued by describing the positive aspects of the event. “It’s a great event because it involves all three cohorts … sophomores running the show, juniors and seniors at dinner and then you bring in professionals sitting down at dinner with them,” Anderson said.
The event was hosted in Spirito Hall from 6 to 8 p.m., with tables set up with flower centerpieces and icebreakers to help spark conversation between the students and guests. As everyone settled into their seats, dinner orders were taken and each table engaged in flowing discussion while they dined.
After dinner was eaten and conversation was lively, a brief intermission began, allowing everyone a break for dessert from the multitude of treats available. While the guests served themselves dessert, Cohort 21 cleared the tables and students prepared to switch to a new table.
As the intermission ended and students were seated at new tables, Anderson explained the last event of the night, which was mock interviews. Each professional at the tables would ask the students questions inspired by those asked at job interviews, giving students the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills and simulate the real experience. While this was happening, Cohort 21 prepared gifts for the guests, with a bundle of flowers and a cookie put together for each professional.

Vivian Ryan ‘25 who helped plan and lead the event said, “Set up for the event went really smoothly, we’re super organized with all the catering … Biggest setback is the food service … we have the youngest cohort taking orders and bringing out food and being servers and they try their best but everyone is super understanding.”
She continued describing how the event will help the students with their future, stating, “Especially for juniors and seniors, it brings us into perspective of what it takes to get to jobs we aspire to be in.”
As the night came to an end, Anderson thanked every student who had an impact on the event and the parents who came to support the cause. As everyone was leaving, Cohort 19 and 20 left with new knowledge of how to get into their future career and more information about it, and Cohort 21 saw what the future of Bioscience held for them.
