Regardless of whether 2024 brought you moments of celebration and joy, or was fraught with challenges and setbacks, it was an undeniably remarkable year. Amongst its landmarks, the arts and entertainment industry was vibrant with influential media, we witnessed the resurgence of fashion trends such as Adidas Sambas and baggy jeans. Even Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) experienced a host of memorable events and moments. The Writing Section of the Foothill Dragon Press has compiled a list of the year’s highlights, from movies, music and television, to representation, trends and sustainable brands. As another year comes to pass, it's time to look back on 2024 at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) and see what's come to pass. From the arrival of a new principal to the 25th anniversary of our school, join our writers as we review the last year.
Best of 2024: Foothill Tech
Full of excitement and anticipated releases, 2024's film reel contains a wide variety of genres and plots, including several sequels such as "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," "Inside Out 2," and "Twisters." By contrast, "Heretic," "Challengers," and "It Ends with Us" were all standalone films ranging from psychological horror to sports and romantic drama. With many films still in development through 2025 and beyond, the best reel from 2024 will surely leave a lasting mark.

With the release of titles like “Metaphor: Refantazio” by ATLUS and Studio Zero, “Black Myth: Wukong”, developed by Game Science, 2024 proved to be a very successful year for many game developers. At the 2024 Game Awards, there was fierce competition among the six nominations to be recognized as the "Game of the Year", with “Astrobot”, developed by Team ASOBI taking home the title.

Who doesn’t love curling up with a good book? 2024 has gifted us with a plethora of new literary options for us to get our hands on, from bestselling authors like Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Lauren Roberts, Holly Black and Han Kang. Tag along with writers Kalea Eggertsen and Jane Kim as they discuss the best of these newly published works, including “Games Untold”, “Reckless”, “The Prisoner’s Throne” and "Human Acts".

Throughout the year, 2024 has gifted the musical world with any number of incredibly well done albums and impressive songs. Popular artists such as Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar's albums gained a large amount of traction after release, earning a spot on the best of 2024 list. Other artists such as Charli XCX, Wallows, and beabadoobee's albums are similarly featured as the highlights of 2024.

From the past 20 years, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) has been growing, and so has the sports program and it's number of athletes. Much of the student body at Foothill Tech are a part of one or more sports teams, whether it is soccer, basketball, cross country or baseball, students dedicate hours of their time to represent the school. But what is left in the shadows is what each of these student athletes do during their selected sports off-season? From extra training and hosted practices, to special recovery tactics, these Dragons commit themselves to improving their skills towards their sport even after their season has ended.

The IDEA Academy is a three year math and science pathway at DATA, described by many to be reliant on aspects like coring and block schedule. On Nov. 26, the student site council at DeAnza voted to keep block schedule, a win for IDEA and its supporters.

How much is to much? Even with rush into Christmas decor and holiday music it has become clear that, in some way or another, the holidays have began to fade. The infamous "Black Friday" has started to just be a memory, being traded in for online shopping or just fully being traded out. As "Cyber Monday" starts to take the forefront of post thanksgiving shopping, it can easily influence the top season products.
