With the cool winds of spring approaching, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) held its spring Renaissance Rally, hosted on March 22, 2024. Organized by the Associative Student Body (ASB), the Renaissance Rally’s theme was based on the Disney Channel Original Movie “Teen Beach Movie,” which also brought a matching movie themed Spirit Week.
Throughout the week preceding the Renaissance Rally, themes were lined up to go with the beach theme of the rally, besides Monday, which had a Spirit Week classic of Pajama Day. Students were able to come dressed in comfortable clothes to start out the week as ASB handed out sleeping masks on the stage in the quad during lunch.
March 19 through March 22 had themes inspired by “Teen Beach Movie” such as Tuesday and Wednesday having students wear stereotypical biker and surfer clothing. Thursday encouraged students to wear their favorite summer outfits and Friday brought back the biker and surfer themes.
Gifts were shared from ASB during the week, which included clip-on roses and festive sunglasses. They also provided “gratitude cards” for Dragons to write to friends, staff and those they are most appreciative for.
On the day of the Renaissance Rally, those who made Renaissance for the last quarter received goody bags provided by ASB full of fun accessories for the students to wear, raffle tickets to be entered for a grand prize and an ice cream ticket to be able to acquire a sweet treat.
As the students filled the quad, they were met with a myriad of activities spread out across the lawn. The area was decorated with Hawaiian Leis, Tiki Towers and beach balls but many students immediately had their eyes drawn to the McDonald’s McFlurries, which was being handed on the stage.
There were tents set up around the quad providing students with face paint with bright summer colors, as well as a self tattoo station, allowing some to decorate themselves accordingly. Hailey Stone ‘26 said, “Even though the weather is cold, it almost feels like summer with all the decorations that [ASB] put up.”
Other activities included a photo booth, sand pit and a large screen television for students to play games on the lawn. Some preferred to go on the Foothill Tech classic inflatable slide and obstacle course on the other side of the quad.
Towards the end of the period, the raffle tickets were mixed up and ready to be pulled for the grand prize of a surfboard. After many names were called and no responses were received, the board finally went to a very lucky winner.
Max Rose ‘24 expressed, “I like the booths and the tents, that’s awesome. I like everything they’ve got going on, it’s very spirited.”
As the Renaissance Rally came to a close, Dragons walked to their next class in their festive outfits with high amounts of school spirit. The illusion of an illustrious summer day made everything feel warm in the air and successfully brought the event and third quarter to a close.
