If I take the time to notice gum in my classroom, I ask for it to be disposed of. With the responsibility of running a class, supervising and helping students and teaching during the class period, sometimes I overlook the gum unless it is VERY obvious. Thanks to this article and knowing that we have an actual BAN on the chewy stuff, I am going to focus more on this issue in my classroom because I have found that many students cannot seem to dispose of their gum AND/OR trash appropriately in my room – I find wrappers behind computers for food that should never have been brought in in the first place!!!
