The Thomas Fire: A year of remembrance

On Feb. 4, 2025, the Board of Education met to deliberate and discuss Resolution #25-02, a plan to reduce and discontinue classified service positions, as a result of major budget cuts in the district. Drained one-time federal and state funds, learning loss, current and ongoing enrollment decline and maintenance of competitive salaries for staff are all elements that have impacted the recent cuts, as explained by Superintendent Dr. Antonio Castro in a message to VUSD families on Jan. 30, 2025, on VUSD's website.

Lacking in basic necessities, the Foothill Tech bathrooms are home to those avoiding classes and wanting to pull out their vape. The sickly smell of vapes is accented by graffiti on the stall walls that provides a great addition to the ambiance of the restrooms.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and Dave's Hot Chicken are both fast casual restaurants that specialize in chicken dishes. Raising Cane's was founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by Todd Graves, and specializes in chicken fingers. Dave's Hot Chicken on the other hand, was founded in 2017, in Los Angeles, California by Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganeshyan, Gary Rubenyan and Tommy Rubenyan, specializing in Nashville-style hot chicken. Both have remained popular fried chicken establishments throughout the years with many loyal customers. Join writer Ella Asher as she pits the two joints against each other.
