“Wait, wait … what, it’s out? Since when? Yesterday?“ These words, I believe, were not only spoken by me, but also by many others — all of us decidedly surprised by the seemingly random realization of “Silksong.” This highly anticipated and terribly marketed video game has been out for purchase since Sept. 4, 2025. Created by Team Cherry, this game is available on a multitude of platforms, including PlayStation, Steam and Nintendo.
“Silksong” is a sequel to the challenging “Hollow Knight” game released in 2017, praised for its beautiful hand-drawn art style and phenomenal combat. “Hollow Knight” won the best debut game at the BAFTA Games Awards and best debut indie game at The Game Awards in 2017.
As previously mentioned, “Silksong” was extremely under-marketed, with little news revealed about the game. The last update before its release was an unexpected, yet extremely underwhelming appearance in Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on Aug. 19, 2025, where Silksong was presented as more of an aside to the other games, rather than as the highly anticipated game that it was. After that, a special announcement was made by Team Cherry for the official release of “Silksong.”
However, this lack of advertising did not stop its sale. Three million copies were sold on Steam alone, and within the first three days, it surpassed five million players across all platforms. So many people flocked to purchase the game that the rush of purchases caused widespread issues and delays.
The hype around the game is for good reason, as it took the qualities of its predecessor, “Hollow Knight,” and upgraded it in many ways. Personally, the game itself is a blast. Many agree, with a rating of 90 percent on Steam and an overall audience rating of 86 percent. The platformer is a dynamic and action-packed experience, full of cool abilities and cooler bosses. Its difficulty has also changed since the first game; many talk about the game’s extremely challenging levels, causing skepticism in those who are interested in purchasing the game.
The game is a wonderful experience that will make you fall in love with its beautiful artwork, intricate combat and unique story. For the price of only $19.99, it would be a great way to support the team that produces such an immaculate game like his, and even have fun while doing it — just get ready to die many, many times.
