As Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) launches into the first few weeks of school, the Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted a themed spirit week the week of Sept. 2, centered around the theme of the school year, “Chasing the Stars.” Not only did the week include themed days that encouraged Dragons to dress according to the theme, but it also included activities during lunch for both students and faculty to enjoy.
Kicking off the spirit week was pajama day, and students were encouraged to dress up in their comfiest pajamas. To add on to the cozy theme of the day, classrooms hosted students to watch movies during lunch. Elisabeth Walker ‘27 enjoyed the activity, saying, “It was nice because everyone was in there just to have fun, to relax and escape from school and homework, and they could enjoy hanging out with their friends in the air-conditioned classrooms.¨

Following pajama day, ASB put together a friendly competition between classes. Each class had a distinct color: freshmen in purple, sophomores in blue, juniors in black and seniors in silver or gold, circling back to the starry galaxy theme of the school year. In the quad, ASB held “Shooting Star Wishes,” where students were able to write their wishes for the upcoming school year on a paper star.
The third day of spirit week was called “Cosmic Twin Day,” where Dragons were asked to twin with their friends. Those who came to school matching were allowed to spin a wheel at lunch to win prizes.
As spirit week came to an end, the theme of the last day was “Dress like a Star.” Dragons came into school dressed up as their favorite actor, pop star, athlete or a literal star. Lastly, to cool off the hot day, ASB passed out Otter Pops to students during lunch.
With a new ASB adviser, Stephanie “Harper” Harper-Recine, come new ideas for themed weeks. Returning ASB student Sophia Isabel Garcia ‘26 said, “The new adviser … is more open to new ideas, willing to help the school out [and] is really nice rather than having the same things from past years.”
Spirit weeks offer students a way to “spice” up the monotonous school days. Overall, the week of themed days and activities for Dragons to celebrate the completion of the first weeks of school was a hit, and Foothill Tech looks forward to the future weeks to come.
