Sports Retrospective: Winter CIF Playoffs

As the league seasons come to a close, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) had multiple teams advance into California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section playoffs. With both boys and girls basketball and boys soccer finishing top-three in league, they advanced deep into playoffs, successfully representing their school and the Dragon spirit.

As the 2025 winter sports season comes to a close, specific teams from Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) qualified to compete in California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) postseason play. Girls and boys basketball, girls water polo and boys soccer were some of these select few that progressed into the first rounds of CIF. Highlighted below are the CIF journey’s of those who made it beyond first round. Although boys soccer and girls basketball lost second round, boys basketball advanced to third round where they unfortunately lost. During the week of Feb. 11 to Feb. 14, 2025, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) celebrated Kindness Week, organized by the Associated Student Body (ASB). This annual event aimed to promote positivity and strengthen the school community through various activities. Throughout the week, students participated in dress-up days and several events, including making candy grams, creating bracelets and playing a game of musical chairs.

On the night of Feb.13, 2023 Foothill Technology (Foothill Tech) Bioscience Academy hosted their annual Entree to Employment event where the juniors and seniors held conversations, mock interviews and ate dinner with science and medical professionals. This event is one of the many that the academy offers its students, giving them the experience and the ability to gain insight on professional careers they may want to pursue. This event is catered by the sophomores of the academy (Cohort 21) and the director Mika Anderson, along with instructor Daniel Baker.

On the cold, rainy night of Feb. 12, 2025 Foothill Technology High school (Foothill Tech) boys basketball team won against Coastal Christian School for the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Head Coach, Jamaal Brown leads and unites his team at the end of the game and celebrates their win. This team has showed a remarkable amount of dedication and is determined to carry their hard work into the next round of CIF.

After securing second place in league with a 6-2 record, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball team embarked on their journey through California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Playoffs. With a 48-31 win over Pacifica Christian High School, the Dragons moved on to round two facing off against Tesoro High School (Tesoro) on Feb. 15, 2025. Ronan Murphy ‘25 and Connor Bursek ‘25 played in their final season representing the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) Dragons. Murphy and Bursek, both captains of the team, worked together to inspire and motivate the team in their California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) run.

Winter sports retrospective
On Jan. 23, 2025 Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) faced off against a league opponent Cate School (Cate) at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Lauren Happel '26 (number 12) scans the pool for an open teammate to give her team an advantage. Happel grips the ball tightly as her defender closes in and delivers a swift pass which later results in a score for Foothill Tech.
