With heartfelt speeches from family and friends going out to the graduating class of 2025, emotions ran high as the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys soccer team prepared for an intense matchup against Bishop Diego High School (Bishop Diego). The match took place on the Dragon’s Senior Night; a time to honor the seniors who have spent their high school career with the team and highlighting their individual impacts on the program. Foothill Tech would take the victory home for their seniors with a final score of 3-1.
The Dragons seized early control over the ball with Foothill Tech keeping a strong offensive push against Bishop Diego as they asserted an early dominance over the pitch.
The intensity of the game would only prove to ramp up, with Foothill Tech highlighting their cohesive playing style and getting several shots on the goal. Christophe Issa ‘25 utilized the aggressive playstyle, having found a gap in Bishop Diego’s defense to drive forward and score a shot from midfield in the early parts of the first half.
Stefan Hubner ‘25 shortly after got a shot off, connecting with the back of the net and increasing the Dragon’s mounting lead to 2-0 as they entered the final minutes of the half.
Connor Bursek ‘25 shared some insight into the emotions leading up to the game, stating, “It was sad because it was most likely our last home game of the season … The team played great, the only goal we gave up was a penalty kick meaning defense didn’t let a ball through and we were counting our passes very well.”
The second half only continued to prove the Dragon’s offensive strength, as they continued to get take shots on goal and proved to be a dominant force on the field. Despite Bishop Diego’s efforts to mount a comeback, Foothill Tech maintained their composure and control over the game.
Midway through the second half, the Dragons sealed their victory with a third goal off of a penalty kick taken by Kaizer Castillo ‘28, extending their lead to 3-0. However, a later play by Foothill Tech granted Bishop Diego a penalty kick, which slipped past the Dragon’s goalkeeper, Julian Lopez ‘25, resulting in a final score of 3-1.
Gavin Leedy ‘26 commented on the atmosphere of the night as well as the team’s performance, sharing, “Going into the game it was a little sad knowing that the seniors were playing their last league game, but it was an enjoyable game for the seniors and the rest of us.”
The Dragons look ahead with pride in their performance as they prepare for the arduous road ahead, setting their sights on the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) postseason.
