On the afternoon of Oct. 9, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls volleyball team faced off against Carpinteria High School (Carpinteria) at the Dragons home court, the Cabrillo Middle School gymnasium for their Senior Night. Foothill Tech emerged victorious on this special night as they swept Carpinteria 3-0.
Before the game began the game, the Dragons did their annual celebration of their senior teammates. Each senior received gifts from their families while fellow team members read a message from the senior for the crowd to hear. This annual tradition is how the team shows their love for their graduating seniors, many of whom have spent four years playing volleyball for Foothill Tech.
After the festivities, the game began with Mia Farag ‘25 delivering the first serve of the night, however, it would be Carpineria who took the first point. Foothill Tech bounced back and quickly found their rhythm with massive spikes by Channing McClure ‘25 to push the Dragons into an early 5-1 lead. The Dragons continued to step on the gas as they pulled away to win the first set in a crushing 25-12.
Coming into the second set the Warriors came out strong as they attempted to keep Foothill Tech’s 6-4 lead from growing. However, Foothill Tech’s dominance was simply too much as key plays from Emily Turner ‘26 paired with the effort displayed by the rest of the team both propelled Foothill Tech into the lead 16-6. Carpinteria started to battle back, bringing the score to 24-19 before the Dragons finished their opponents off 25-19 to take the second set.
As the Dragons entered the third set, they were hopeful to close out the game strong and earn a win as they bid a farewell to their seniors on their last time on their home court. Foothill Tech scored the opening point of the set, only further demonstrating the strong offensive positioning and cohesive playing style.
Foothill and the Warriors would duke it out early in the set as both teams had strong strikers in the corners and blockers up front, but the Dragons would never give up their lead as they continued to execute their plays with precision. In the end, the Dragons controlled the tempo of the set and maintained their momentum into the late minutes of the game.
During the third set, Mclure hit a spike to the far corner and left the Warriors left unable to respond, further solidifying the Dragon’s lead. The set concluded with Foothill Tech taking the win with a hit out from the warriors, with a final score for the set of 25-16.
Samantha Jacobson ‘25 commented on the emotions of senior night and the energy of the game, stating, “The emotions were all over the place, I still had leftover tears from reading a speech and I was so proud of my team for coming this far … The game started out with strong energy and I’m so happy with the way we played.”
The next, and final, match for the team is set for Oct. 10, 2024, against Bishop Garcia Diego High School where they hope to close out the season strong.
