On the evening of Sept. 28, 2024, the Greek Theatre opened its doors as fans trickled to their seats, eagerly anticipating the exciting night of Beabadoobee’s “This is How Tomorrow Moves” tour. Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, otherwise known as Beabadoobee, is a British-Filipino singer and songwriter who grew popular because of her unique alternative indie/pop music style.
The evening began with performances from Keni Titus and Hovvdy. Keni Titus, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to open for Beabadoobee on their first tour, showcased their own alternative indie style with songs like “take it off,” “american spirit” and “just keep driving.” Finishing their performance with one of their more popular songs, “if u want,” which, according to Genius, is “about falling in love with the idea of someone after having just met them and wanting to be loved.”
Keni Titus’ performance was followed by Hovvdy, a country music style band from Austin Texas. Among other songs from their new self-titled album, the band played a touching song called “Make Ya Proud” which was about family values, and dedicated to the lead singer’s grandfather.
Finally, the moment fans had been waiting for arrived. Beabadoobee’s band took the stage first, followed by the singer herself, who launched into “California” from her latest album, “This Is How Tomorrow Moves”. Throughout the concert, she performed a mix of hits from her albums such as “Beatopia,” which included “Talk,” “Sunny day,” “the perfect pair” and more.
The main focus of the concert was Beabadoobee’s newest album, which quickly gained popularity on social media platforms like Tiktok and Instagram. Her song “Real Man” became popular on TikTok, inspiring a dance that the singer performed live. Another popular song frequently seen on social media was her first single, “Take a Bite,” which was released at the announcement of the album. Fans showed their love for the song with homemade merch featuring an iconic bitten apple.
Beabadoobee’s unique music style was shown in her upbeat and more punk songs, such as “She Plays Bass,” where the singer urged the audience to all jump together, creating an exciting and uplifting moment.
During softer and more heartfelt songs, such as “Glue Song,” “Girl Song” and “Coming Home,” the audience held up their phone flashlights in unison, in a touching moment. This display highlighted the impact her music has had on her community of fans. Even when the singer became affected by the cold night air, a fan in the front row offered her a handmade sweater with Beabadoobee’s cats, Kimchi and Miso, stitched on the front.
Finally, Beabadoobee ended the show with “See you Soon” from “Beatopia,” commemorating the memorable night, and second to last day of her tour. She expressed her gratitude for the venue and her loving fans who have supported her through her entire music journey, from the song that started it all “Coffee,” to her newest album, which furthered her recognition.
The concert was truly one to remember with a captivating blend of various genres. From exciting and uplifting to somber and heartfelt, Beabadoobee’s music never fails to engage her fans and make them connect with her songwriting.
