On Sept. 20, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls volleyball team faced off against Ventura County Christian School (VCCS) at the Cabrillo Middle School gymnasium. The Dragons cruised to victory as they won in just three sets in a breezy contest.
Foothill Tech set the tone early as VCCS were no match for their offense. After multiple aced serves by the Dragons and missed receives by VCCS, Foothill Tech commanded the first set with a score of 25-14.
Emily Turner ‘26 commented on her energy throughout the game, “It’s hard to keep the same energy and endurance and I feel like I did a good job with that … I felt like we played consistent throughout.”
The Dragons carried their momentum into the second set with Fiona Aulenta ‘26 put her hitting on display as she helped Foothill Tech jump onto a 9-2 lead, forcing VCCS to call a timeout. Foothill Tech came out of the break even stronger as they closed out the set after going on a 16-4 scoring run.
“It wasn’t as high tempo as we thought it was gonna be, but I feel like we all tried out some new things and got to perform to the best of our abilities,” said Aulenta.
As they felt the win already in their grasp, Foothill Tech decided to even try new positions. “I got to play setter for a couple of points and I haven’t played setter since freshman year so that was a lot of fun,” said Channing McClure ‘25.
More of the same ensued for the Dragons in the final set as Foothill Tech’s continued mastery closed out the game strong. Turner impressed with a 15 serve streak, to put away the game 25-11.
With another win under their belt, the Dragons look to go get another on Sept. 24, 2024, where they face off against Bishop Diego High School on their home court.
