Photo Essay: Boys’ soccer destroys St. Bonaventure 9-0 shutout

On the breezy afternoon of Dec. 14, 2023, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) varsity boys’ soccer takes on St. Bonaventure High School (St. Bonnie) in a victorious 9-0 win. The Dragons started out strong, taking the upper hand quickly and securing the win early on in the game. Merric Bayless ‘24 and Matheus Gamble ‘24 relentlessly pushed Foothill Tech’s offense, putting a great deal of pressure on St. Bonnie’s defenders and goalkeeper, eventually leading to multiple goals by the duo. Bayless and Gamble each scored three goals. Pedro Medrano ‘24, Diego Flores Orozco ’24 and Nico Flores ‘24 also each scored one goal. Foothill Tech hopes to continue their win streak in their upcoming games against Pacifica High School on Dec. 22, 2023 and Oxnard High School on Dec. 27, 2023.

On Jan. 30, 2025 family and friends gathered around the soccer field at Ventura College to support Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) senior boys on their celebratory senior night. This match was held against Bishop Garcia Diego High School (Bishop Diego) and ended in a Foothill Tech win with a final score of 3-1, making the teams league record 4-4, with a spot in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Before the game, a ceremony was held where each senior walked down the field hand in hand with their family, while one of their coaches listed off a few fun facts about the player. The seniors that were reconsider were Julian Lopez ‘25, Stefan Hubner ‘25, Samuel Lozano ‘25, Christophe Issa ‘25, Kiran Maserang ‘25, Jaysen Fernandez ‘25, Julian Cartellieri ‘25, Connor Bursek ‘25, Ronan Murphy ‘25, Alex Sundberg ‘25 and Johann Cerda ‘25.
Boys soccer Senior Night
On Jan. 9, 2025, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys soccer team played against Thatcher High School (Thatcher) in a league match. The dragons took the win 3-0 with goals from Dylan Files '26 (number 6), Kaizer Castillo '28 (number 7) and Ammar Atiah '26 (number 20).

On the night of Nov. 25, 2024, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) varsity soccer players faced off against Santa Clara High School (Santa Clara). They took a clear lead from the beginning, and ended up securing a win 5-0. Conner Bursek '25 (number 19) can be seen putting pressure on Santa Clara's defense, and aiding the Dragons to mainitan their win. He looks for an opportunity to pass to his teammates further down on the field.

On Nov. 18, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys soccer team took to Fillmore High School (Fillmore) to compete in a non-league match. The Dragons gave it all they had, but lost 1-5.

On March 1, 2025, Foothill Technology Highschool (Foothill Tech) faced off versus Saint Monica Preparatory (St. Monica) in their first home game of the season. Shane White grips (number 10) his bat and digs into the left batters box in hopes of getting on base and extending their lead. After a strong game, the Dragons swept the competition 4-0.

With over 100 million downloads worldwide, "Block Blast" is a mobile game published by Hungry Studio available on a variety of platforms across the internet. Rated as a 4.9/5 on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, the game has exploded in popularity near the end of 2024 despite being initially released in 2022. Aimed at solving unique block puzzles in the pursuit of a higher score, the main objective is to clear the board of colored blocks. However, it serves a dual purpose of helping users pass the time, while still engaging the brain.
Addiction or Entertainment?
N93 masks, COVID tests and wipes that advertised killing 99.9% of viruses flooded the markets with the onset of the 2020 pandemic. People overturned grocery stores to stock during the infamous toilet paper shortages, and students sat through online school at dining tables or in bed. Everyone had a complete 180 from any form of normalcy, with the lock downs causing even those who weren't previously germaphobic to become extra cautious. Quarantine and social distancing became normal, emotional bonds were strung together by phone calls, but after five years of all of that, did the world really end?

Girls beach volleyball shuts out Santa Clara
On Feb. 25, 2025, Foothill Technology (Foothill Tech) boys volleyball faced off against Cate School (Cate). Taking place at Cabrillo Middle School, Foothill Tech's own terrain, the match began at 6 p.m. Unfortunately, this second home game of the season ended in a 3-1 loss. Foothill Tech secured the first set, yet fell to Cate in the last three. In the image above, the team gathers in a tight huddle during a timeout, strategizing for the following sets. Coach Dave Benedik urges the team to communicate more efficiently, as many lost points were attributed to a lack of communication on passes and set balls. The team listens intently, hoping to garner more points as they return to their positions on the court.

Curren Wiggins '26 (number 13) and Elijah Haigh '25 (number 15) leap to block a spike from Bishop Diego High School (Bishop Diego) during their volleyball match. Despite the block, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) couldn’t secure a win, losing 0-3. The team played with heart and intensity, refusing to back down. While Bishop Diego's offense triumphed, Foothill Tech’s defense showed resilience and determination throughout the game.

As the league seasons come to a close, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) had multiple teams advance into California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section playoffs. With both boys and girls basketball and boys soccer finishing top-three in league, they advanced deep into playoffs, successfully representing their school and the Dragon spirit.

On the cold, rainy night of Feb. 12, 2025 Foothill Technology High school (Foothill Tech) boys basketball team won against Coastal Christian School for the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Head Coach, Jamaal Brown leads and unites his team at the end of the game and celebrates their win. This team has showed a remarkable amount of dedication and is determined to carry their hard work into the next round of CIF.

After securing second place in league with a 6-2 record, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball team embarked on their journey through California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Playoffs. With a 48-31 win over Pacifica Christian High School, the Dragons moved on to round two facing off against Tesoro High School (Tesoro) on Feb. 15, 2025. Kaller put up 10 points and had many defensive stops and steals.
