Rachel Sun is a junior at Foothill and a second-year feature writer. She was born just outside of Detroit, Michigan, and has been living here in Ventura ever since her sixth grade year. Rachel is trilingual; she knows English, Mandarin, and the language of Shanghai. Currently, she is working on her fourth language, Spanish. She takes school very seriously, and her class schedule reflects it. This year, Rachel is taking on all AP and honors courses. When she’s not spending countless hours on homework, she enjoys tutoring kids through Project Understanding, “chilling” at Barnes & Noble, hanging out with her friends, or watching Netflix. Her hobbies include swimming, which she did for Buena High School her freshman year, and working on her collection of short stories. Math may be her favorite subject in school, but her passion lies with writing. She doesn’t take much interest in English class, because she doesn’t quite like writing essays or persuasive work. Rachel hopes to attend Michigan University one day and double major in creative writing and computer science, then fulfill of her dream of becoming an author. Rachel considers J.K. Rowling to be her literary inspiration, because of the widespread imagination shown through her books. Rachel’s passion for writing is what motivated her to join the Foothill Dragon Press her sophomore year.
