The 2024 Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) cross country team had a season highlighted by adversity and perseverance, as they ran their way through the regular season into the post.
Both the boys and girls team’s advanced through the qualifying TCAA League Finals meet to enter the CIF) Postseason. CIF Prelims, hosted at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. Sac), were easily breezed through by Foothill Tech athletes. The girls’ team squeaked out an overall score of 129 for a fifth place finish against some of the fastest teams in Southern California.
The boys’ team shared in the girls’ success, taking a much more conservative approach going into Prelims, where the Dragons stayed tightly grouped and secured a second-place finish with a score of 65 points.
Unfortunately, the girls’ team would encounter much resistance at CIF Finals, where they ran away with a last place finish ending their season and blocking their road to the CIF State Meet.
Finals marked a moment of adversity for the boys team, with performances coming up short due to a hectic start and less than ideal conditions, the team, led by Viggo Bortolin ‘27, was still able to coast into a third place finish where they would go onto secure a podium spot. After securing another third place finish, scoring 147 at State, the team brought home hardware to conclude the season.
