As all five Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) winter sports seasons slowly wind down, each team honors their senior athletes for their hard work and dedication to the program. Each Senior Night was unique but shared the common thread of celebration. Follow along for some comprehensive coverage of the conclusion of girls basketball, boys basketball, boys soccer, girls soccer and girls water polo.

As the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) winter sports teams’ seasons wind down, each sport prepares for their final games. As part of the customary tradition, each sport held Senior Nights to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the seniors, many who have played for four or more years. As multiple teams continue the fight to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) winter playoffs, they invite parents and fans to celebrate seniors in their league match-ups. Boys soccer, girls soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball and girls water polo all emerged victorious against their opponents. Addison "Addi" Fallon ’25 receives Athlete of the Week for her ongoing remarkable girls soccer season, where she has displayed exceptional leadership and skills as one of the captains on the girls soccer team. The Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) community appreciates all her hard work in representing the school.

Falling on January 29, 2025, Lunar New Year is the holiday following the second new moon after the winter solstice. Lasting 15 days, celebrations from different cultures typically corroborate one of the 12 Chinese zodiacs; 2025 is the year of the snake. Associated with general qualities of an enigmatic and uncanny personality, depending on the time of year and conditions of the child’s birth, superstitions may point towards what the child’s personality may be like in the future. During the holiday however, Lunar New Year celebrations will be centered around snake imagery in cultures that support the 12 zodiac signs, also including the traditional exchange of red envelopes and grand festivities that occur otherwise. Common celebrations may include lion dances and dragon dancers, performed by crews of two for the lion and nine for the dragon. There may be fireworks and lanterns hung on the streets, plus a variety of other decorations as each family sees fit to celebrate.

Here at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) students have officially finished with the first semester of the 2024-25 school year, meaning that freshmen at Foothill Tech have completed one eighth of their high school career. Moving up from middle school is a pretty dramatic change to the pressure and expectations of high school. From fun fridays and low expectation classes, to the dreaded AP test and SAT prep soon to come, the bar has been raised. Along with the difficulty of education being raised, so are the challenges of a student's social life. Through this time many friendships go through ups and downs, and people change, it is a part of the high school experience. At this time the new freshmen are going through all of these changes emotionally and physically.

Surrounded by their teammates, they take a moment to reflect on their years of hard work and dedication to the sport, as the crowd cheers in appreciation of their accomplishments.
Girls soccer crushes Bishop Diego at annual Senior Night
On Jan. 23, 2025 Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) faced off against a league opponent Cate School (Cate) at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Lauren Happel '26 (number 12) scans the pool for an open teammate to give her team an advantage. Happel grips the ball tightly as her defender closes in and delivers a swift pass which later results in a score for Foothill Tech.
Girls water polo defeats Cate, 7-5 on Senior Night
Aidan Gomez ‘25 (number 10) is pictured here posing with his mother on his honorable night of celebration. Tons of Foothill Tech students gathered in the stands of the gym inside Ventra college to support their school's basketball team. Staff, family, friends and students all celebrated an amazing night watching the Dragons win to send off the seniors in their second to last game of the season.
Foothill Tech boys basketball clutches a landslide victory on Senior Night
On Jan. 30, 2025 family and friends gathered around the soccer field at Ventura College to support Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) senior boys on their celebratory senior night. This match was held against Bishop Garcia Diego High School (Bishop Diego) and ended in a Foothill Tech win with a final score of 3-1, making the teams league record 4-4, with a spot in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Before the game, a ceremony was held where each senior walked down the field hand in hand with their family, while one of their coaches listed off a few fun facts about the player. The seniors that were reconsider were Julian Lopez ‘25, Stefan Hubner ‘25, Samuel Lozano ‘25, Christophe Issa ‘25, Kiran Maserang ‘25, Jaysen Fernandez ‘25, Julian Cartellieri ‘25, Connor Bursek ‘25, Ronan Murphy ‘25, Alex Sundberg ‘25 and Johann Cerda ‘25.
Boys soccer Senior Night
On the cold night of Jan. 24, 2025, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball hosted their second and final game against Cate School (Cate) resulting in a 58-37 win. The game honored their graduating class of seniors, as their season winds down to an end. Each senior received flowers and heartfelt speeches from their teammates. Pictured is Rihanna Samples '25 (number 2), Lauren Kaller '25 (number 0) and Vivian Ryan '25 (number 30) posing with their families to celebrate their high school basketball careers.
Girls basketball demolishes Cate on senior night
On the late night of Jan. 16, 2025, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) lost to St. Bonaventure (Bonnie) in their third league game of the season. Sofia Vega '26 dribbles at the top of the key, carefully surveying the defense and looking for an opening as she orchestrates the offense. As a forward, Vega displayed her court vision and basketball IQ throughput the game, running the floor and setting up key plays.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls soccer did exceptionally well in league, placing first with a record of 8-1-1. Led by team captains Shayna Dearman-So ‘24, Taylor Listen ‘24, Cameryn Henuber ‘24 and Eva Goncalves ‘25, the team made it to round one of CIF playoffs.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys soccer made it deep into CIF, led by team captains, Matheus Gamble ‘24, Diego Flores Orozco ‘24 and Merric Bayless ‘24. The team worked tirelessly to earn third place in league with a record of 6-2-1.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls’ volleyball team had a record of 2-8 in the Tri-Valley league and an overall record of 10-14. Team captains, Ashlyn Mullin ‘24 and Kaili Garrett ‘24, led the team to California Scholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs where they finished the season strong in the first round.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls beach volleyball had a successful season of play, with a record of 7-1 in league play and an overall record of 11-6. In California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) division two, they finished the season strong, making it to round one of play.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball had an exceptionally good season, tying for first place with St. Bonaventure High School (Bonnie) in the Tri-Valley league, with a record of 7-1 and an overall record of 12-12. Team captains, Petra Falcocchia ‘24 and Lauren Kaller ‘25, led the team into the California Scholastic Federation (CIF) Division 3AA playoffs, where they made it to the second round and finished their season strong.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls tennis team finished third in the Tri-Valley League. They were led by their captains, Lola Tennison ‘24 and Kira Branson ‘24, in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) when the team received a wild card and got to play.
