If you’re ever in a bind or a lost freshman in the halls, Maxwell Fielder ’25 is a perfect senior to turn to. Even with so little time left in the school year, Fielder still makes an effort to help out the student body and make a difference at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech).
Maxwell Fielder, known as Max, was born April 14th, 2007, in Westwood, Los Angeles. He eventually moved to Ventura in the seventh grade, forming a solid relationship with the community before his high school years. Fielder starts off his day, waking up at around 7:00 a.m.. He then heads off to school to arrive before 8:30 for his first period, AP Government. He continues his day with second period AP Literature, third period DTech, fourth period ASB (Associated Student Body) and fifth period AP Psychology. Due to block schedules at Foothill Tech, he usually gets home with time to work out, do homework and head to bed. With the free time that Fielder has, he usually spends playing video games. These can range from Rainbow Six Siege to the new OG Fortnite. Finally, he heads to bed at around 11 p.m. depending on his homework load.
Fielder and his family are almost never bored. His parents Ben Fielder and Colleen Fielder take Fielder and his sister Stella Fielder to visit his grandma in Springfield, Missouri when they have the time. Fielder’s favorite memories with his family include teaching his sister how to play volleyball and going to Mexico for Thanksgiving. Fielder used to play volleyball and soccer as a freshman and sophomore, but with the bigger homework load in junior year he decided against it.
Even though Fielder doesn’t tend to participate in any community service other than the occasional beach cleanup, he dedicates much of his time to ASB. “I work a lot with ASB and a lot of their after school activities, whether that may be running some different fundraisers we do or dining with Dragons.” One of the many events ASB runs throughout the year is info night for all the incoming freshmen that may apply to Foothill Tech. Fielder commented on this particular event saying, “It’s pretty cool for my parents to be here when I’m running one of the info nights, when you have to guide the parents around the school, answer questions.”
Since Fielder is a senior, he has had a little more than a year to figure out a future career. The colleges that he is currently applying to are, “most UCs as well as USC, Northwestern, Indiana, and Oregon.” He may not be sure about the specific job he wants to do after college, but Fielder is adamant that he will go into either finance or economics depending on what majors his future college offers. “I’m looking for something within the finance related field, but I’m not really sure, something working with numbers.” However, what he likes academically doesn’t revolve around math. Fielder says his favorite teacher while at Foothill Tech has been Mr. Fitz in APUSH (AP U.S. History) … I think Mr. Fitz is a really good presentation giver. He makes his classes really captivating and he pushes a hard class to keep kids interested. That was impressive.” Fielder also enjoyed Mrs. Adams’ class during his sophomore year seeing as she is a World History teacher at Foothill Tech. Even though Mr. Fitz is someone Fielder looks up to, Captain is Fielder’s trusted mentor and confidant, “I’ve had her for four years in ASB, so if I ever need anything, I know I can go talk to her.”
While Fielder is only just starting his adult life, he commented on his plan for the next ten years saying, “I’d like to be in a job where I am doing something that I like, something that I’m excited to do. I want to have a good group of people around me that I can lean on and have fun with. Some people who, you know, try to push me forward.”
Before his college life starts, you can probably see Fielder at the beach with friends or working at one of Ventura’s local stores. As intimidating as befriending an upperclassmen may be, Fielder is never one to shy away from meeting new people. So, if you ever see Fielder out and about, send a wave and he’s bound to smile back.
