Luke Ballmer: Lance Armstrong not worth media attention

Lance Armstrong is really, really boring. Maybe the foundation upon which he built his notoriety was interesting enough to warrant its largesse, but that foundation is gone now that he’s admitted to doping, and I just wish people would stop talking about this boring liar.

Everyone roots for a cancer survivor, but that’s no longer what Lance Armstrong primarily is. If just “living strong” after surviving cancer was what he was after, he wouldn’t have even begun to contemplate doing what he’s done.

Armstrong has fought through a lot, but what motivated him, as we’re now likely going to hear from him, was beating as many people as he could by any means necessary.

He did a lot of good, but it was all built upon a lie, and it’s boring to hear any more about it. Whoever he owes an apology has no mandate to listen to it, and I, as someone who is not owed an apology, feel the public’s attention should be directed elsewhere.

He lied about using performance-enhancing drugs, and will now join a large list of athletes in the same category of lying. The trophies he’s won are now worthless, his support is evaporating, and that’s all there is to it. Move on.

Don’t do it for his sake, of course. There’s no doubt he betrayed public trust, made lots of money doing it, and now, after everyone ostensibly knew anyway, is starting to tell the truth for reasons likely verging on attention-seeking.

Do what you can to not give him the satisfaction, or whatever it is he’s looking for by making his confession as public as possible, and don’t waste your time.
