The clocks tick closer and closer to November 6, 2012 when the ballots will be cast not only for the presidential elections, but also for the congressional representative for our district. The Democratic candidate, Julia Brownley, feels that she would better represent Ventura’s district than Republican candidate Tony Strickland.

“A big priority for me continues to be education and equality of education and access to education and affordability when we talk about higher education, and, again, this goes back to wanting to expand and protect the middle class. A fundamental middle class issue is indeed education and having access to a high quality one,” Brownley said.

Brownley feels that Foothill students will be best served with her in office.

“I am the candidate who is going to look out for you in your current educational experience at Foothill and your future,” Brownley said.

Environmental issues and social issues also maintain priority with Brownley.

“We want to protect our environment and open spaces here in Ventura. We want to make sure our air is clean, our water is clean, that we protect our coastline, that we support marriage equality, that we support a woman’s right to choose,” she said. “These are all my values and the values of Ventura County.”

Although Brownley is from Santa Monica, she feels a connection with this district and its constituents. {sidebar id=62}

“I have served in the California Legislature for the last six years. I’ve represented Ventura County, I’ve represented parts of Ventura County over the last six years, I have chaired the education committee, I have worked with every school district across Ventura County.”

With no incumbent, Brownley and Stickland stand at even ground and are working tirelessly to earn each and every ballot in time for November 6.
