The Foothill girls’ tennis team remains undefeated this season after they beat the Bishop Diego Cardinals 13-5 in Santa Barbara on Thursday afternoon.
In singles, sophomore Enkela Qoshlli “swept her match,” according to Coach Brad McClain.
Qoshilli thought her teammates remained persistent throughout the match.
“The girls from Bishop [Diego] were just pushers and didn’t really have much power in their shots. However, they were very consistent,” said Qoshilli. “We beat them by remaining persistent and fighting for every ball, taking it one point at a time.”
In doubles, sisters sophomore Sherlyn and junior Summer Kouvilay won all three of their matches.
Foothill “had a strong start” and won all six matches in the first round. McClain was pleased with his team’s performance and thinks his they’re improving.
“Our serving is much better,” said McClain.
He’s also proud of his team for pushing through despite the hot weather.
“Very tough conditions today,” said McClain. “[It was] 93 degrees!”
Foothill’s record is now 3-0 overall, 2-0 in league. The next match is at Hueneme High School on Monday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.
