Alex Lawson ’25 is an avid member of the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) community. As a worker in the cafeteria, member of the track and field team, yearbook reporter, member of the Overcome club and leader of an off-campus Bible study, Lawson leads a busy life both on and off campus. Much of Lawson’s free time is used facilitating the VTA Bible Study that he and some close friends started in July 2024.
Gomez: What inspired you to start a Bible study for high school students around the area?
Lawson: I feel like there was a calling for truth that the youth need, and this Bible study spreads truth and love in the generation that lacks truth.
Gomez: What is your main goal for this Bible study?
Lawson: To have a Christian community that spreads love and gives people hope. A community that you get nowhere else.

Gomez: How did you go about forming the group and finding members?
Lawson: The passion for growing in the faith in this Bible study group is so incredible! People see the joy and love that this Bible study has to offer. All members such as Atheists, Agnostics, [and] Christians, are coming to see how this community can grow them in their walk with God.
Gomez: How do you ensure that all members feel included and comfortable participating?
Lawson: The people participating in this Bible study are all welcome no matter what they believe in. People who show up to this Bible study are greeted by everyone and are in such a positive community.
Gomez: What challenges have you faced in leading the group, and how have you overcome them?
Lawson: Some challenges that we have faced are financially, it can be hard to provide for 80-plus people with food, snacks, drinks, entertainment and games, but with donations, it can really help.
Gomez: What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own Bible study group?
Lawson: If you feel called to start something, you better start, or you don’t know what you’re missing out on. I would’ve never thought that God would provide so many opportunities to share the faith, such as this program Vta Bible study.
