Senior Awards Night is typically a night full of pride and joy; a night where seniors are awarded for all their hard work amongst family and friends. The class of 2020, the class that made history, received a different form of celebration.

Due to COVID-19, Senior Awards Night could not happen in its regular fashion, but senior advisors Melanie Lindsay and Justin Frazier made sure that the seniors were still recognized.

Emcees Frazier and Lindsey kicked off the night with the Hall of Fame awards for every pathway at Foothill Technology High School (FTHS). These included Design Technology (Dtech), Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID), Associated Student Body (ASB), Bioscience Academy, Drama and the Foothill Dragon Press (FDP).

It continued with an award honoring late Dana Eaton, a respected FTHS security guard, which was gifted to a few students that embodied Eaton’s kindness.

Later, specific academic awards such as English and Mathematics Renaissance were given to students who truly stood out and were individually recognized by the department heads for the respective subjects.

A newly named award this year was the Joe Bova Scholar Athlete award. Given by athletic director Jamaal Brown, students Annika Arroyo ’20 and Nikolai Hanes ’20 received the award for their athletic and academic accomplishments.

The all-around male and female were recognized as Aiden Donnelly ’20 and Hayden Hickerson ’20, respectively

“Just to be nominated for this award is such an honor” says Lindsey.

The last award of the night, given by teacher Heather Ferris, was the Chris Prewitt Award. Ferris felt Fernando Martinez ’20 deserved this award because of Martinez’s “respect for humankind” and “infectious enthusiasm for life”.

According to Lindsey, the class of 2020, “did not get the end of the year as they deserved,” but she hopes seniors felt “a little celebrated and recognized.”
