All-district Glow Dance brightens up Spirito Hall

Brimming with glow sticks, necklaces, bracelets and lights, Spirito Hall was radiating an electric vibe as the pop music filled everyone’s ears, kicking off a relaxing three day weekend on Nov. 8, 2019.

The dance serves as a fun and energetic way to put an end to a tough week of school at Foothill. According to Maddy Huovinen ‘22, she enjoys “hanging out with friends” and “meeting new people” at Foothill’s dances. Huovinen expressed her opinions on the Glow Dance, stating that “it’s really fun.”

Despite the fun and exciting environment inside of the dance, lots of work goes on behind the scenes from Foothill’s Associated Student Body (ASB). From making sure students receive adequate amounts of water, having teacher and administration chaperones, setting up the dance and selling the tickets, ASB puts in countless hours to make Foothill’s dances compete with other schools almost twice its size.

Open to all of the Ventura Unified School District (Ventura Unified), the Glow Dance was filled with a variety of students from various high schools.

Associated Student Body member Karyme Fierros ‘22 expressed her opinion on the dance, saying “I think it’s really cool, a lot of the students are coming together and dancing,” adding that ASB puts in a lot of work to pull off these entertainment-filled dances.

Foothill students danced through the night, with hits like “Yeah” by Usher, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond filling Spirito Hall.

Following an energetic and musical evening, Foothill’s Glow Dance was a success, having an attendance rate of 270 Foothill students as well as some from other Ventura Unified schools.
