Posters galore, slogans on cars, personalized shirts, and stickers are just a few ways candidates for the ASB president and vice president elections campaign for votes from their fellow students.

Foothill juniors Kimberly Coverly and Riki Schmitt are both running for ASB president, though they have different reasons as to why they feel they should be elected.

Coverly believes that she should be president because of her experience.

“I’ve been freshman, sophomore, and junior class president,” she said.

Although Schmitt has not been a class president, she believes she has experience in other areas.

“I feel as though I’ve had a lot of experience with different aspects on campus,” she said. “…ASB, Renaissance, and working with staff and students.”

Both candidates have goals they would like to achieve next year.

“ASB president isn’t a job unless you make it a job,” Coverly said, “I think I can make it a job and bring ASB back together, because we have been disjointed in the past couple years.”

Schmitt expressed her view for what she wants school-wide.

“I believe that every single student on our campus should feel comfortable and welcome here every single day,” she said, “I believe that we [ASB] are here to make sure that every student here feels incorporated.”

Junior Henry Ashworth is the only candidate for ASB vice president and will automatically receive the position.

Foothill students can vote today from a link off of the school website.

Last year, ASB removed a newly elected senior class president due to inappropriate remarks on Facebook that were discovered after the election. Despite the issue ASB encountered last year, the election guidelines have not changed.

“The election rules remained the same as years prior.  The code of conduct for ASB members has also remained the same,” ASB advisor Darcy Perez said, “All schools rules apply to campaigning as usual.”

Elections for class officers will take place Feb. 14 and 15.

The runners are: Trevor Kirby and Taylor Rios are both running for senior class president, Lujain Al-Salehis running unopposed for senior class vice president, Jackson Tovar and Hayley Abourezk-Pinkstone are running for junior class president, Adam Braver is running unopposed for junior class vice president, Anna Cogswell is running unopposed for sophomore class president, and Ana Bello and Carson Graves are running for sophomore class vice president.
