On Wednesday, the Foothill girls’ water polo team competed against Villanova Preparatory School for their final league game of the season. Foothill defeated Villanova with a final score of 13-2.

Sophomore Lezly Plahn was Foothill’s lead scorer, scoring five of Foothill’s goals. Senior Ariana Singer scored three times. Freshmen Josie Thorp, Abbey Massar and Serifina McClain, sophomore Savannah Bendon and senior Annie Sinclair each scored one goal.

According to Coach Samantha Ebberson, the girls looked like a “well oiled machine.”

“They looked like a team out there,” said Ebberson. “It warmed my heart and everyone was commenting on how well they look.”

Ebberson believes that the team has improved and has few errors to work on.

“After today’s game, I believe we have everything down,” said Ebberson. “We are at the point where if we don’t know [the game] by now, we’re never going to get it. They did what they needed to do.”

The third quarter was the most exciting quarter of the game, according to Ebberson, because Massar and McClain scored their first goals of the season.

“The [team] made it their mission to help [Massat and McClain] get one [goal] and they did it,” said Ebberson.

Foothill now has a league record of ten wins, zero losses and an overall record of 25 wins, three losses.

The girls are placed second in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division VI League and will compete in the championship games. The first of their four CIF championship games is on Thursday, Feb. 19.
