For the first time in three years Foothill Technology High School’s prom location was changed. This year it was held at the Camarillo’s Commemorative Air-Force WWII Aviation Museum, which played nicely into the “Fly Me to the Moon” theme.

Everyone seemed to love the change in location. There was WWII memorabilia and planes everywhere, giving the place a 1940’s feel.

Even History teacher Dan Fitz-Patrick enjoyed the change in location.

“Saticoy country club is a dime a dozen of a venue, and I think this is something unique and special, so I hope the kids think that way too,” he said.

The theme and the change of location was decided by the junior class ASB president and vice president Will Hammer and Nick Vaughan.

“We were at Camarillo airport and we wanted to stay classy,” said Vaughan.

The pair decided that the “Fly me to the Moon” theme would juxtaposition together the venue and the overall “classy” feel.

“Frank Sinatra sang ‘Fly me to the Moon’ and that goes well with an airport,” said Hammer.

Pictures started at 5:30 p.m., but most students showed up around 6:30 p.m. when a delicious italian dinner was served. Chicken parmesan, vegetarian lasagna, pasta primavera, and dinner rolls were all provided by Martinos Catering.

After dinner was done, the dance floor opened up. Instead of playing popular songs like ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams, the D.J. played music from the 1940’s and 50’s.

The tranquility lasted for about an hour, and when the sun went down the music changed, which was followed by an uproar from the students. Instead of playing ‘Almost Like Being in Love’ by Frank Sinatra, they played ’23’ by Mike Will Made it, featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, and Juicy J.

When the clock struck 9 o’clock, the time everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived. It was time to announce prom king and queen. This year’s Prom Court was made up of all seniors:

Bridget Coonan and Dee Lucas we’re crowned King and Queen. After they had been crowned and their sashes were changed from nominees to king and queen, they danced to Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable.’

As the night ended, the student’s adventure back to the 1940’s ended as well. The combination of the location, music, atmosphere, and friends made prom a night they’ll never forget.
