Thank you for this well thought out and respectful response to a shameful and racist act. I was very troubled to read some of the comments on Emma Kolesnik’s opinion article, and I can only imagine how the climate must be on campus at the moment. You are absolutely right that the administration needs take responsibility for their actions by giving a statement explaining themselves. I am glad that you are standing up for what is right. Please continue to do so, and even if it feels like no one is on your side, know that you are not alone. Do not let them silence you.

This is a beautiful and well put response. You expressed my thoughts and feelings about this issue perfectly. As the parent of a Foothill graduate, I am upset that students were subject to this because it is in direct opposition to the values that I teach in my home: To be sensitive to people, and to seek to understand, honor, and respect others. I do not believe that this was done with malicious intent, but instead with great ignorance. I have more respect for people who admit and learn from their missteps than I do for those who cling to their flawed perspective in an attempt to protect their egos. I really hope the administration does the right thing.

How can anyone not like this? I’m amazed at the number of dislikes. Who are you?
