Thursday afternoon, the girls’ golf team competed against Nordhoff High School at Soule Park Golf Course. They were defeated by ten points with a final score of 283-293.
Coach Janey Dunn believed the team definitely had some trial and error when it came to the heat.
“It was 96 degrees in Ojai, so the heat definitely got to us. The girls still played well in spite of the heat and playing a course they had never played before,” Dunn said.
Dunn also felt the team specifically hit some nice shots in the heat.
“I saw everyone hit some good shots, [but] playing in the heat is something we are going to have to learn how to do better,” Dunn said.
Junior Olivia Cate agreed with Dunn on the effects of the heat.
“It was pretty bad at first. Especially with all the walking, we just needed to keep hydrated,” Cate said.
She also believed competing was going well until they began getting attacked by bugs.
“It got better as we went on and then the wasps became a bit of a problem. Overall it wasn’t really enjoyable conditions to be playing in,” Cate said.
Overall and in league, the team has had three wins and two losses. The next time they compete it will be on Tuesday against Carpinteria High School.
