Wrap-Up: Foothill swim wins meet against Fillmore High School

The Foothill swim team dominated in a meet against Fillmore High School on Friday. The girls won by a score of 123-10, and the boys with a score of 109-41.

According to freshman Lily Armstrong, the meet went “really well.”

“You can tell that everyone has improved and are just going to get better. For this being our first year as a team, we are still doing very well and I think we’ve surprised some people,” she said.

Senior Ariana Singer also thought the game went nicely, as they “won most of the events that [they] had swimmers in.”

Some highlights from the game include sophomores Josh Modglin and Megan McKillican, senior Simon Christie, and Armstrong. Christie placed first in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:29.34, and claimed another first place finish in the 100-meter butterfly.

Armstrong finished first in the 100-meter freestyle with a CIF automatic time of 58.73. Modglin qualified for CIF as well in the 500-meter freestyle. McKillican won the 100-meter butterfly and earned a CIF consideration time of 1:10.56. She also earned another CIF consideration time in the 500-meter freestyle.

Several swimmers also earned CIF consideration times: Armstrong in the 200-meter individual medley; Modglin in the 50-meter freestyle; sophomore Kevin Waechter in the 100-meter backstroke; and freshman Josie Thorp in the 500-meter freestyle.

Armstrong, McKillican, Singer, and freshman Jaina Malach earned a CIF consideration time in the 200-meter medley relay. Thorp , McKillican, Singer, and junior Sienna Romero also claimed a CIF consideration time in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Coach Jason York’s hopes for the future of his team include getting more swimmers qualified for CIF, as well as winning the Frontier League.

“We have a very young team and although we have some strong seniors that we will lose after this year, our young swimmers have a lot of room for improvement,” he said.
