After a week of campaigning, the results are in: junior Courtney Corbett will be next year’s Associated Student Body (ASB) President and junior Kahar McCullum will be ASB Vice President.

ASB Advisor Melanie “Captain” Lindsey thinks that “Courtney’s going to be incredible.” Corbett ran unopposed, but Lindsey feels that she is the right person for the position.

After hearing the news that he won the campaign against candidate Daniel Holst, McCullum said that he is “really nervous” but “definitely excited.” He is enthusiastic for the new year, and believes that his openness to ideas will help him to fulfill his new role.

“I think I’m very systematic and I like to get a lot of other peoples opinions on things before I make decisions,” McCullum said.

He also is eager to work with Corbett in the coming year.

“We are best friends so I think it’ll be a good partnership,” McCullum said.

Although this is his first year in ASB, Lindsey thinks he will be a promising leader, as he will “bring new eyes to ASB seeing he’s only been in the class for about six months. I think there’s potential for a new perspective with a newer vice president.”

McCullum campaigned against one other candidate, junior Daniel Holst. Although he is disappointed, Holst feels that the new officers are well-suited for their roles, and is looking forward to running for Senior Class Vice President.

“I’m disappointed in the outcome of it, but I think Kahar will be a good aspect for our school and for our ASB program,” Holst said.

According to Lindsey, 165 freshmen, sophomores and juniors voted, out of the 775 qualified students, making it a 21 percent voter turnout.

ASB Class President and Vice President elections will be held on Monday, February 29 on the stage at lunch.
