Class presidents and vice presidents announced

Class+presidents+and+vice+presidents+announced

On Tuesday, November 28th, the elected officials for class presidents and vice presidents in the 2017-2018 school year were announced.

Despite the fact that they are often confused with the roles of Associated Student Body (ASB) President and Vice President, who focus on the entirety of the student body, class presidents and vice presidents focus more on events specific to their class. The Senior President and Vice President organize events exclusively for seniors, the Junior President and Vice President plan Prom and the Sophomore President and Vice President plan Winter Formal.

The winners are as follows: Senior Class President is Julia Fickenscher ‘18, Senior Class Vice President is Olivia Morales ‘18, Junior Class President is Abby Sourwine ‘19, Junior Class Vice President is Josiah Beharry ‘19, Sophomore Class President is Hayden Hickerson ‘20 and Sophomore Class Vice President is Sophia Parker ‘20.

With the exception of Morales and Beharry, all of the candidates campaigned unopposed by other students.

Although Morales feels Nikki Mercer ‘18 was “a really good competitor” in the race, she is ecstatic to be working alongside Fickenscher in the 2017-18 school year, as they are close friends.

This is Morales’ first year in ASB; she felt extremely eager upon winning because she “wanted to do something bigger my second year” in the class.

Beharry considers it an “honor” to have run against Sowon Lee ‘19 for Junior Class Vice President, someone who he believes to be “very educated and amazing.”

For his next year in office, Beharry plans on work with his “partner and friend,” Sourwine, to organize a spectacular prom and to ensure that the junior class feels like they are in an accepting and supporting environment.
