Brandon Jacobson has been snapping shots around Ventura since his freshman year. Jacobson likes to switch things up from the freeflow art of photography to the guided technique of computer programing.

Jacobson took up photography as a hobby during his freshman year of high school to showcase his creative side. He enrolled in the photography class sophomore year and was instantly hooked. His favorite type of photographs are portraits.

“I really am interested in portraits and as I meet more people and do more things, if I can find anybody that’s willing to let me take portraits, I’ll be willing to do that,” he said.

Although taking photos is fun, it is more of a side project for Jacobson. After graduation he aims to receive an internship at a computer science company and to program for them.

“I really do want to stay in an area that will allow me to take pictures and do what makes me happy,” Jacobson said.

Jacobson discovered his interest in computers because of his fascination with the idea that he could build something that people don’t necessarily see. He likes to create something that seems basic to people using it but is actually structured.

The difference between the two subjects is black and white for Jacobson.

Senior Drew Garbe enjoys being his model for most of his pictures.

“I think his work is very good and high quality. I watched him edit two photos in one period and all the stuff he did to them was intricate and specific,” Garbe said.

“I see Brandon going to college to study math or physics because it is his calling,” he added.

Jacobson claims the balance between a strict structure and free flow creativity helps him concentrate on each subject closely and more intently.

Senior Jake White sees so much passion inside Jacobson’s work.

“I personally like his work and think he has very interesting pieces,” White said. “I think he’ll keep on taking photos. It’s turned into a major hobby for him and I don’t see him giving it up anytime soon,”

Jacobson loves the endless amount of applications that programming has to it and credits Bill Gates as his role model.

“He [Bill Gates] is such an intelligent individual whom turned what he was good at into one of the most successful companies in the world,” Jacobson said.

Jacobson hopes to attend a UC school, pursuing his dream of programming and continuing his hobby of photography.
