Renaissance students, non-Renaissance students, teachers and staff roamed Foothill’s bustling campus, exploring the school’s first Renaissance Rally of the year on Friday, October 20, the last Friday before break. Colorful booths representing decades ranging from the early 1920s to the unknown future lined the quad, attracting students and providing interactive activities.

Students who earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, or who improved their GPA by 0.5 over the course of the quarter are considered to be on Renaissance and were able to participate in the rally. Kayla Austin ‘18 thought the rally served as “an incentive to work hard in school.”

During the rally, students had the option of visiting a variety of booths with chocolate, candy, hair chalk, face painting, bracelet making and photo opportunities. Austin believes “this style of rally gets everyone involved.” Having booths where students can interact with other students connects freshmen and seniors, sophomores and juniors.

Associated Student Body (ASB) organizes this event each year. This years Renaissance Rally Coordinator Aubrey Paul ‘18 thinks “it turned out really well. I’m proud of the ASB class.” The class’ hard work and cooperation helped bring the event together. Not only did the rally bring together Renaissance students, but ASB students as well.

Eugene Murphy ‘20 said his “favorite part would be the ice cream,” but more importantly it was a time of “everyone hanging out and having fun.” Katherine Roth ‘21 agrees that “it brings all the grades together.” While freshmen didn’t get tickets to each booth so they could participate, the theme of inter-grade connectivity was exemplified through higher grade friends giving freshmen their tickets.

ASB adviser Melanie “Captain” Lindsey believes the event “was very well front-loaded,” shown through the organization and smooth flow of activities and music. The rally was a perfect beginning to fall break, a way to ease out of tests and homework and into a week of relaxation before the second quarter.
